Are the Holidays a Good Time to Buy or Sell a Home?

This question is asked on a regular basis. Yes, "they" say (whoever "they" are) that business slows down during the holidays. My personal opinion is based on my observations as well as: I bought a home during the holidays. Many people are just out driving around and looking at the lights and checking out the neighborhood they'd like to live in. They might just decide right then and there that it's a good time to buy a home. A few years ago, my husband and I actually found one we liked in December and closed in February. We were "just looking." And what about those who come into town to visit their relatives? Or those in town for the winter? They are all "potential" new residents of Arizona!! Maybe even the new owner of your home that you listed during the holidays!!
The holidays are a favorite time of year for many of us and a great opportunity to "showcase" your home if you're thinking of listing it. Who doesn't like the holiday or Christmas decorations? Don't wait too long to list if you're thinking of it 'cause NOW is a good time to put it on the market and dazzle the buyers looking for a home. Many Realtors discourage sellers from listing with the mention that the market is too slow and to wait until after the holidays. Reasons why might include: they will be out of town or they will be entertaining and don't want to deal with listing a home. It's a lot of work right now to list and sell a home and believe it or not, there are those agents who prefer not to spend the time and money it takes in this market.
That said: if you don't need to sell your home now WAIT!!! Not just for the holidays to be over, but until the market settles down. Active listings today? 47,211!!
